Costelloe Lodge a Titanic Retreat

Costelloe Lodge is an eight-bedroom Edwardian country house, designed by the architect Sir Edwin Lutyens for Bruce Ismay, chairman of the white star the owner of the Titanic.   Bruce Ismay resided here from 1912 – 1937. The lodge is situated in Connemara, along the Wild Atlantic way with spectacular sea, river and mountain views overlooking the twelve pins.   The gardens designed by the renowned Edwardian gardener Gertrude Jekyll overlook the Casla river adding to the tranquillity and atmosphere of this very special place.

Local beaches include the famous coral strand just five minutes’ drive to Carraroe, a nearby village with pubs, cafes and local supermarkets, here you will find picturesque piers and secluded coves to sunbathe, swim or maybe fish for shrimp with the children.

Island hopping is a must when you visit Connemara.   The Rossaveal Aran island ferry is a two-minute drive from the lodge.  The trip takes approximately 40 minutes aboard the locally operated modern ferry, you can choose which of the three Aran islands to visit first.

A 35-minute drive along the coast road and you could be enjoying a day’s shopping in Galway, a harbour city on Galway’s west coast or perhaps deciding which of the many wonderful restaurants to choose from.  Enjoy a round of golf in Salthill or take in a spot of culture in one of the cities many museums. Don’t miss an evening’s entertainment enjoying a pint of Guinness and listening to live Irish folk music in the Galway pubs it’s an essential part of your holiday in ireland!
